Following the success of the Winlink 101 Training Exercise, Colorado ARES hosted a Near-Vertical Incident Skywave (NVIS) training seminar.

NVIS is an important mode for Colorado ARES, which can provide reliable communications in a three to five hundred mile radius without the use of repeaters. NVIS is not an antenna, but it is a propagation mode where antennas can be configured to optimize NVIS properties. Does that sound confusing? If so, you can review the recorded webinars and view the PowerPoint decks from the sessions to learn more about NVIS and why it is an important communications capability for Colorado ARES.  Links to the webinar recordings and the slide decks can be obtained my checking with your local District Emergency Coordinator.  You can also contact Region EC Chip Ferron NØWKR at chip.ferron@gmail.com.
