Mesa County ARES (MCARES) registered as a non-profit corporation with the State of Colorado in 2023, and after following the long process with the IRS, we have been approved as a 501(c)(3) organization.  The biggest benefit of achieving this step is that it allows us to apply for grants and funding that is restricted to organizations recognized as non-profits by the IRS.  Your MCARES board will be looking at sources of funds and applying for appropriate grants in the near future.  Our goal is to be able to help upgrade some of our repeaters, digipeaters and other infrastructure, as well as purchasing a trailer to serve as a mobile comm center.  This new tax status also makes us tax deductible for some of your donations to MCARES.  If you know of agencies or organizations that provide grant funding for groups involved with public safety and disaster communication, please contact Chip Ferron NØWKR.  A special thanks goes out to Tara Stauffer CPA, a partner at Chadwick, Steinkirchner, Davis and Co. for helping us through the incorporation and non-profit status process.
