ARRL Field Day is coming up on June 24th and 25th!  Field Day started out years ago as an exercise to take our ham radio equipment into the outdoors to evaluate our ability to set up emergency communication capabilities in an emergency.  Over the years, it has evolved into so much more.  Now, it’s a “contest that isn’t a contest”, a barbecue cook-off, a public relations event to bring in new hams and a chance to get together with old and new friends.  Partially  as a result of COVID, home stations have taken on a larger role, and digital modes are more popular than ever.  Our local radio club, the Western Colorado Amateur Radio Club (WCARC) has for many years set up a camp up on the Uncompahgre Plateau and offered any hams who wished to join them the opportunity to operate Field Day up in the mountains.  If you would like to do some “roughin’ it”, join the group for the full outdoors Field Day experience.  Contact Brad AKØBC for details and maps.  For those of you who can’t make it up there (or aren’t camping fans), I’m going to host a Field Day in my backyard to do some a) FD contacts, b) eating and c) chatting about radio.  Contact me for details at chip.ferron@gmail.com or call/text 970-261-2508.  Leave a message and I’ll get back to you with details.
